The Office
I've been busy all week with our internal auditors from PriceWaterhouseCoopers. They had a tough job. In four and a half days, they had to learn our business and then work up the nerve to provide recommendations to our VP like they know more than he does. What a pain it was escorting them around and explaining things to them. They were nice people (all two of them), but that can't make up for the fact that their job is to find things wrong with your company. Of the 10 other sites they've visited recently, we rated the highest. So it turned out well in the end. PWC is also the firm that counts the Oscars. They didn't know anything about that, so that was the end of that conversation.
Anyway, it's the weekend, and I'm going to relax. I've been singing "The Office" theme all day.
"So what becomes of you my love/ When they have finally stripped you of/ the handbags and the gladrags that you're family had to sweat so you could buy"
I thought by renting seasons 1 & 2 I was being all cool and hip because very few people know about the British show, or have only heard about it. Then I start seeing previews for the American version that premieres next week, and now I'm pissed because the British version is going to be too fresh in my mind for me to enjoy the American one. The ad is a replication of the stapler-in-jello gag from ep1 season 1, which is an interesting choice because it wasn't all that funny. Gareth is funny. "MONKEY!" is funny. Steve Carrell, of "Daily Show" and "Anchorman" fame, is playing David Brent ("Michael Scott" in the US version), so it can't be all bad. Although he doesn't have that same smarmy, used-car-salesman smile like Ricky Gervais. The creepy guy from "Six Feet Under" is playing the Gareth role, but no one can do it better than Mackenzie Crook. I bet it'll be a little more sitcom-ish and not in the mockumentary style of the original. And like original, it'll take some time to warm up to. The lead character is the boss of the office, and he can be a major prick, so he reminds me too much of my own boss. Oh, did I say that out loud?
Speaking of offices, today I'm finally going to organize the boxes in my computer/study room. Then I've gotta catch up on my bills and watch the NCAA tourney. Too bad there's no good movies to see. My dad mentioned he was up for one, and that's rare. Somehow I don't think he'd want to see "The Upside of Anger" though. 'Cause he's not a woman.

Don't know if you know, but you definitely want to rent "The Office Special," which ties up the loose ends on the show.
The theme song is actually a Rod Stewart song (although he doesn't sing that version). It's addictive in its own way.
