That whole "Calvin & Hobbes" title thing didn't work out. As you may know, Calvin doesn't speak in neat little soundbites.
So I had an interesting dream last night. I dreamt me and a bunch of people in my life were all in a Consulting business together. We provided consulting services to hospitals and manufacturing plants. And we were all in a room brainstorming ideas for a TV advertisement. I'll break it down:
Core Team:
My dad: CEO -- over 30 years of experience; including 15 years as CFO of hospital systems
My sister: audits our clients financial statements & controls, and generats our own statements; experienced auditor of healthcare companies
My mom: secretary/receptionist -- greets visitors, answers phone, provides general support (copying, printing, etc.)
My boss, Gary: Sales/Marketing and Business Development; a salesman through and through
Me: Financial analyst, onsite and on-client.
Contractors/ Part-time involvement:
Josh: Legal -- for us & our clients when needed
Jeff: IT consultant for our clients, when needed
Brian Sco was there too because he was going to film our commercial. And after the meeting was over, we were going to call Jude to have him do a story in the newspaper about our small family-owned operation (I'm not sure what city the dream took place in: Boston, maybe?). Anyway, it was only a dream, but it's a dream I'd love to see come true.
I started watching "The Office" last night and while it's not busting my gut, it's pretty clever and smile-inducing. Improvisational humor has never worked for me (ex. Christopher Guest's stuff, "This is Spinal Tap," "Best in Show"). And I'm not sure what the premise is: There's always a camera that the characters are reacting to, and they do 'real world'-like interviews too... so is this a mockumentary? Will this aspect phase out as the series progresses? The fun part so far is trying to figure out which characters are most like the people I've worked with. Gareth acts a lot like our HR admin, who always makes sure everyone does everything by the books and is constantly acting like she has more power than she actually does. I hate her sometimes. Her name's Barbara Maloney, but we call her, amongst other things: Baloney Maloney, Phony Maloney, Barb the Bitch, Medusa, One-Eye, and Sauron. That last one may seem a little weird, but trust me -- it fits.
Tonight's "Punk'd" featured Penelope Cruz & Salma Hayek. It's the first nice thing Ashton Kutcher has ever done for the world, and I thank him (and I thank my sister too, for informing me of this milestone in television programming). The prank was them being accused of causing the restaurant's toilet to overflow with rank shit. No kidding. The entire segment is these two beautiful women talking about turds. Penelope, Salma, and massive amounts of shit. My god, it was mesmerizing.
