Easter Weekend
You'll never guess what I did this weekend: watched a whole lot of TV. Most of it was college basketball, which I always ignore until March, but then it turns me into a full fledged sports fan, which I so am not. I can't believe how great some of the games have been. They've made the past couple weeks kind of fun, because for some reason, 4 hours of basketball doesn't seem as much of a waste compared to, say, 4 hours of Real World/Road Rules. Or watching the extras on "The Incredibles" two-disc set. Society is much more forgiving of couch potatoes who watch sports than couch potatoes who watch lame MTv shows and the extra features on Disney movies. Don't ask me why, but that's the way it is.
So on Saturday I completely vegged on b-ball then relaxed and watched "The Office: Christmas Special," which was a satisfying conclusion to the series, but somewhat lacking in laughs. I just don't like the David Brent character outside of the office environment. All of the attempted comedy at the nightclubs fell flat for me. I think I just felt too sorry for the guy. Hmm, interesting.
I also watched "The Incredibles" again, and I was surprised by how little was lost on the small screen. The storytelling ability of Brad Bird is just too damn good. But when it comes to his commentary on the deleted scenes, he's a little too long-winded. It's like, shut up, you talented genius.
On Easter Sunday I woke up late and met my parents at their house for brunch. The conversation at the table was light, although I did manage a few of my trademark political barbs, but no one was biting (I mean, what's wrong talking about how the U.S. is financing both sides of the war on terrorism at Easter brunch?). After that, more b-ball, but during halftime my Dad guilt-tripped me into doing my taxes, which took me about an hour and a half. I owe the Federal government $158, mainly because I advanced to a higher tax bracket thanks to all the rental reimbursements the company gives me. That just seems wrong.
Came home, watched "Alfie," which was a meandering mess, but still interesting because of Jude Law's clothes, which always made him look tiny. And now I'm writing this.
And no, I didn't go to church. Matt 1, God 0. Yeah, eat it, God.
